Pimple inside nose

Symptoms

A pimple in nose is associated with pain and inflammation. The pain may get very severe. Pain is even felt while sneezing or respiring. Other symptoms include fever, headache and malaise. A pimple inside nose usually disappears by itself in a few days, relieving the symptoms. Pimple inside the nose is hard to locate and the infection is also deep-seated.

Causes

1. A pimple inside nose usually follows after common cold. This is because excessive use of antibiotics kills the natural commensal bacteria of the nasal cavity and leads to opportunistic infection of other bacteria causing a pimple. Stoppage of the antibiotic therapy helps in getting rid of the pimple.

2. It may also be associated with excessive nose picking. Nose picking damages the hair follicle and leads to subsequent infections.

Treatment

1. Don't just apply anything inside the nasal cavity because it will get absorbed from the nasal cavity in to blood.
2. You can apply tea-tree oil using a cotton bud (Q-tip).
3. Don't squeeze the pimple. Squeezing it may aggravate the infection.
4. You can also apply antibiotics or salicylic acid locally using a Q-tip.
5. Popping it should be done with extreme care.  Take some analgesic before attempting it, because it can be very painful. You can use a regular needle, but be sure that it is well sterilized. Clean it with alcohol or any other sterilizer. After pricking it drain the pus by applying slight pressure and also apply some antibiotics locally to kill the germs.
6. If the pain becomes severe, do consult a doctor.
