This post talks about how to get rid of a pimple in ear, i.e. pimple in the ear canal ( tube like passage connecting external ear with the tympanic membrane or the ear drum ).
Causes
1. An ear pimple is quite common in children. This is because children scratch their ear with dirty fingernails, leading to infections.2. Poor ear hygiene is another cause. The sebum (produced by sebaceous glands inside the ear) accumulates and blocks the ear canal. This predisposes to infections.
3. Excessive exposure to water can also lead to an infection. This is termed as Swimmer's ear.
4. Other causes include blocked pores and ingrown hair.
Symptoms
A pimple in ear is extremely painful. It typically presents as a small red pimple in the ear canal. It is associated with significant inflammation. There may be some pus too. If it becomes big-enough, it can also lead to temporary hearing loss.Treatment
1. First of all, don't touch or scratch it, you may worsen the infection with the bacteria in your hands.
The pimple usually regresses itself and is totally healed in 1-2 weeks. You can take an analgesic, if the pain becomes severe.
2. Take a clean cloth, dip it in hot water and dab it on your ear. Do this gently, don't apply too much pressure. This process will clean your ear and also help in the healing process.
3. You can also apply peroxide locally. The person must lie down on his/her side with the affected ear facing upwards.
4. Don't try to prick or pop it.
5. Consult a doctor if it becomes severe.
