Blind pimple

A blind pimple is pimple which is without a head. They are more deep seated. Therefore, these are very painful, being closer to the nerves. Also known as papule, blind pimples appear as a red/pink lump.

How to deal with them

NEVER try to squeeze, prick or pop them. As they don't have a head and are deep within the skin, you will increase the infection on popping them and may leave a long-lasting scar.

To treat a blind pimple you have to use the technique of warm compression. This will help in forming a head so that the pimple drains easily.

Just take a cloth, dip it in hot water and apply over the affected part for a minute or two. Repeat the procedure several times.

You can also use other general remedies like tea tree oil, aloe vera or apple cider vinegar.

Prevention

Drink lots of water, take a healthy diet and keep your face clean.

Avoid using harsh beauty products. Use milder, natural products.

Pimple on lip

Today we'll talk about what to do when you get a pimple on your lip.

First of all, you need to understand whether the pimple is actually on the lip or it is on the lip line.

A pimple on the lip line is similar to pimples on other parts of your face. So, you can use the remedies you usually opt for other pimples on your face.

Now, we'll discuss in detail about pimple on your lip.

Pimple on lip

Causes

1. Lip balms or lip gloss that you apply daily may be infected and can cause a pimple.

2. Blisters on the lips may be caused by an infection of Herpes simplex virus (HSV), known as Herpes        labialis

3. Food residue around your mouth may lead to some bacterial growth.

4. Allergic reaction to a component of your lip balm or toothpaste.

Prevention/ Treatment

1. Avoid using harmful cosmetic products. Check expiry date of the products you are using. Try to use natural products preferably.

2. For Herpes labialis, oral antiviral drugs are prescribed. But do consult a doctor, as it is a serious condition.

3. Avoid touching the pimples, because it can worsen the infection.

4. Drink plenty of water so that your lips are well moisturized. Take a healthy balanced diet.

5. You can use remedies like application of salicylic acid, but be careful because lips are very sensitive.

A-Z about ingrown pimple

What is an Ingrown pimple?

Ingrown pimple
Ingrown pimple occurs due to an ingrown hair. As the name suggests, ingrown hair results when a hair grows in the opposite direction i.e. downwards into the skin. The hair is then entrapped in the follicle and causes infection. An ingrown pimple is very painful and if ignored, can become a serious condition. It does not regress by itself, like other pimples do.

Causes

The most common cause of an ingrown pimple is repeated shaving or waxing of an area. So prefer using an electric shaver, instead of a conventional razor.

Other causes include naturally curly hair, that may grow in a wrong direction.

Treatment

Take a cloth and wet it with hot water. Dab your pimple with this cloth. This helps to open up the pores. This is the primary step that helps to soften the pimple.

Now, you can either apply benzoyl peroxide or any other antibiotic solution to clear the infection.

OR you can squeeze out the pus, if the whitehead is visible.

If the ingrown hair is visible, pluck it with a pair of sterile tweezers.

Prevention

Exfoliating your regularly shaved areas helps prevent an ingrown pimple. Dead skin covers the hair and can trap it.

Use a scrub or a mixture of baking soda and granulated sugar.

Get rid of a pimple in ear

This post talks about how to get rid of a pimple in ear, i.e. pimple in the ear canal ( tube like passage connecting external ear with the tympanic membrane or the ear drum ).

Pimple in ear

Causes

1. An ear pimple is quite common in children. This is because children scratch their ear with dirty fingernails, leading to infections.

2. Poor ear hygiene is another cause. The sebum (produced by sebaceous glands inside the ear) accumulates and blocks the ear canal. This predisposes to infections.

3. Excessive exposure to water can also lead to an infection. This is termed as Swimmer's ear.

4. Other causes include blocked pores and ingrown hair.

Symptoms

A pimple in ear is extremely painful. It typically presents as a small red pimple in the ear canal. It is associated with significant inflammation. There may be some pus too. If it becomes big-enough, it can also lead to temporary hearing loss.

Treatment

1. First of all, don't touch or scratch it, you may worsen the infection with the bacteria in your hands.
The pimple usually regresses itself and is totally healed in 1-2 weeks. You can take an analgesic, if the pain becomes severe.

2. Take a clean cloth, dip it in hot water and dab it on your ear. Do this gently, don't apply too much pressure. This process will clean your ear and also help in the healing process.

3. You can also apply peroxide locally. The person must lie down on his/her side with the affected ear facing upwards.

4. Don't try to prick or pop it.

5. Consult a doctor if it becomes severe.

How to deal with a Pimple inside nose

Pimples or acne are the most common problem affecting youngsters these days. Today we'll be talking specifically about pimples in nose/ pimples inside nose.

Pimple inside nose

Symptoms

A pimple in nose is associated with pain and inflammation. The pain may get very severe. Pain is even felt while sneezing or respiring. Other symptoms include fever, headache and malaise. A pimple inside nose usually disappears by itself in a few days, relieving the symptoms. Pimple inside the nose is hard to locate and the infection is also deep-seated.

Causes

1. A pimple inside nose usually follows after common cold. This is because excessive use of antibiotics kills the natural commensal bacteria of the nasal cavity and leads to opportunistic infection of other bacteria causing a pimple. Stoppage of the antibiotic therapy helps in getting rid of the pimple.

2. It may also be associated with excessive nose picking. Nose picking damages the hair follicle and leads to subsequent infections.

Treatment

1. Don't just apply anything inside the nasal cavity because it will get absorbed from the nasal cavity in to blood.
2. You can apply tea-tree oil using a cotton bud (Q-tip).
3. Don't squeeze the pimple. Squeezing it may aggravate the infection.
4. You can also apply antibiotics or salicylic acid locally using a Q-tip.
5. Popping it should be done with extreme care.  Take some analgesic before attempting it, because it can be very painful. You can use a regular needle, but be sure that it is well sterilized. Clean it with alcohol or any other sterilizer. After pricking it drain the pus by applying slight pressure and also apply some antibiotics locally to kill the germs.
6. If the pain becomes severe, do consult a doctor.
